So it’s official, the NCAA did approve starting college basketball for the 2020-2021 season on September 16, 2020. See this article to learn more:
Here are the important dates and rules which were approved by the NCAA Div 1 Council:
- November 25 – Games can begin.
- October 14 – Full practices can begin.
- September 21 to October 13 – Strength & conditioning and skills work up to 12 hours per week.
- Maximum # of games 24-25 & Minimum # of games 13.
COVID-19 still poses a threat to the start of the season. The coaches and staff will be dealing with testing, contact tracing and keeping the student-athletes in de facto bubbles. Games will be canceled and teams may need to play some games without a full roster. It may be a difficult road, but it appears that all of the Division 1 conferences and teams are fully committed to making the 2020-2021 season a reality. Let’s hope it all works, but since college football is mostly working out so far with about 85 players per team, basketball should be more doable with only 13 players per team.
Enjoy the season – even in a pandemic!
